Linux Lite 3.6 Released

Linux Lite is a very light distro and it’s designed to reanimate old computers with the latest updates in their repositories. This version is based on the latest Ubuntu LTS (Xenial Xerus – 16.04.3) with Xfce desktop 4.12 as default desktop and Linux kernel 4.4.

In the words of the linux lite developers :

Linux Lite is based on the Ubuntu LTS series of releases. LTS stands for Long Term Support, this means each release has a support period of 5 years. This is a great basis for stability, but not only that, you only need to install once every 5 years. During that period your system will continue to receive updates. Linux Lite is fully functional out of the box, this means that you won’t have to install extra software when you boot your computer for the first time. We believe that a computer should be ready to use straight away on the first boot after a new install. You’re going to need this kind of functionality on a daily basis when you are using your computer so we take the hassle out of trying to find the right software from the start.

This new version of Linux Lite 3.6 also introduces two important new features. First, Lite Sources, a repository selector that allows you to easily select our closest software repository so that downloading and updating software is much more fluid. The second newest feature for Linux Lite 3.6 is the inclusion of an online and offline search engine for the Linux Lite Help Manual.

Linux Lite 3.6 includes with the latest open source applications such as: Mozilla Firefox 55.0.2 is the default web browser, FreeOffice office suite, VLC 2.2.2 media player and GIMP 2.8.22 image editor.
