When I use file managers they always seems to be missing some options. That’s why Polo has become a top-of-the-line file manager. Although still in beta state, it’s very stable and as the developer says, Polo is ready to use daily. Let’s see the innovative features of Polo:
To install Polo we must add the repository of TeejeeTech, (the same developer of “Conky Themes”). Type in a terminal the following commands:
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install polo-file-manager
The first time you start Polo, you can select the format of the panels. There are four layout options and you can change it later. The four layouts are: Classic Icons, Classic List, Commander and Commander Icons.
At first glance we can identify new features like free space, also the status bar has been improved. There is a “view” button to easily change between views and number of panes. Also Quick access buttons for devices and Bookmarks. The terminal is also at hand, when you click the “Terminal” button, a terminal is displayed below the pane.
Polo also has advanced options in the context menu : New Admin windo, New terminal, KVM options to work with Virtual Machines, Sort By many file properties, and a nice Properties windo.
The settings UI is also powerfull you may change view settings, UI settings, columns settings, etc.
There is a plugin with more features but it’s a payed version, mostly to keep the project working. In the words of the developer:
“Polo includes a few extra features for people who have contributed to the project through donations, translations, etc. You can make a donation for $10 or more via PayPal to receive the plugins by email. Your contributions will help keep the project alive and support future development”
Polo is a modern file manager with new customizing features and very friendly. Panes are easily customized to your needs. Good job!
Some features are shared if you contribute to the project. Contributeware? 🙂
